Instructional Tools and Strategies
All students should be encouraged to select tools and strategies for illustrating mathematical ideas. For example, using a formula is helpful when determining an unknown. Creating their own representations is a powerful way to develop their understanding and explain their thinking to others.

Reflection
- How can we ensure that technology is used to support students’ conceptual learning of mathematics?
- How can the integration of technology and the use of manipulatives enrich and deepen students’ conceptual learning of mathematics?
- How can we assess mathematical processes based on the strategies and tools used by students?
- How can creating assessments that reflect the use of the mathematical processes, for example, the selection of tools and strategies, enhance our understanding of comprehension and impact our teaching practices?
